Join Doug and Catherine Sensei on this unique custom exploration of Australia’s Tropical Far North Queensland. Starting in Cairns you will visit the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforests, World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef (all part of the Wet Tropics), Atherton Tablelands and Australia’s largest National Park Island, Hinchinbrook Island.
After immersing ourselves in the sacred and breathtakingly beautiful northern part of Australia, we’ll truly engage with Aboriginal people and traditions through an “indigenous cultural day”. All is designed to correlate with the wonderful, crowning teachings of the Dharma at a three-day retreat: Awakening Through Traditional Wisdom.
Human history includes many approximate maps of the archetypal journey of spiritual unfoldment, including everything from shamanism and agriculture-based cosmologies, through the likes of Christianity and Buddhism, to modern self-realization methodologies. We explore how, throughout the ages, spiritual traditions have used archetypes to bring the heroines and heroes of our journey to remain deeply embedded in our unconscious, or to make breakthroughs so as to become highly integrated and self-aware. These spiritual traditions and new methodologies hold in common the ability to bridge our worldly concerns to our enlightened nature, which lies both beyond and within. Easy access to both the mundane and the transcendental is crucial for a balanced life and spiritual health, as well as for fearless transitions through the various stages of life and death. Just as permaculture represents a radical yet very sensible combination of many practical traditions and methodologies, awakening can be achieved in this lifetime by drawing on traditional spiritual wisdom of indigenous cultures and ancient spiritual practices such as the Kabbalah and Buddhism.
