SUMMARY:Six Yogas of Naropa Retreat 2019
DESCRIPTION:Six Yogas of Naropa\n Bardo Yoga & Transference of Consciousness Yoga | Dec 6-22\, 2019\n The final exploration in our three-part series\, this two-week retreat focuses on Bardo Yoga and Transference of Consciousness Yoga. \n OverviewDetails\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Six Yogas of Naropa\nBardo Yoga \nThere are six bardos\, yet you only encounter four during your lifetime. Bardo Yoga is the yoga of the intermediate or liminal state. As it includes aspects of illusory body yoga and dream yoga\, it’s recommended that participants have done both of those practices. \n Transference of Consciousness Yoga \nTransference of Consciousness Yoga practice helps us prepare for when consciousness leaves this organism at the time of death. Practices include dissolving the sufferings of the six realms into a bindu which travels upwards in the central channel. \nAlso called the yoga of changing places\, this yoga speaks to other worlds and maintaining the light of sleep (as in lucid dreaming) or the light after death. As in other yogas\, its successful practice relies on practicing the Paramis. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the 2019 Six Yogas of Naropa Retreat\nBardo Yoga and Transference of Consciousness Yoga\nDecember 6-22\, 2019 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Six Yogas of Naropa are one of the central practices of the Tibetan Kagyu lineage\, to which we belong. These practices form a path to freedom through the development of deep understanding into the way things and formations arise and pass away. Meanwhile\, the teachings are grounded in the deep understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of Tantra. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PREREQUISITES: Who can attend this retreat?\n \n \n \n \n \n This retreat requires the following three pre-requisites: \n\n1 million Chenrezig mantras completed.\n100\,000 long Vajrasattva mantras completed\n100\,000 prostrations completed.\nOr special permission from the teachers (contact them at your earliest convenience as another practice is likely to be substituted/required instead).\n\n  \n\nOur teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the Teachers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Catherine Pawasarat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre\, BC\, Canada. SUMMARY:Public Talk: On Death\, Dying and What's Next.
DESCRIPTION:Our Transient Lives: On Death\, Dying and What's Next\n Public Talk in Bensheim Germany | October 28\, 2019\n One thing we know for sure is that life never stops moving. Change is the only certainty. Hear Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat speak on the subject of death\, dying and what’s next. \n  \n DetailsRegister\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Our Transient Lives\, Public Talk\nAccording to Buddhist philosophy and experience\, death is a temporary end to a temporary process. In other words\, death isn’t an end: it’s a process. According to the ancient and classic Buddhist text the Abhidhamma (the Buddhist version of quantum physics)\, rebirth is instantaneous. How so? Because the nature of consciousness is to flow\, like a stream. \nWhat we call “incarnation\,” however\, takes time. Like anything\, the shaping or forming of consciousness needs time to coalesce. Buddhist philosophy and experience also describes the process that happens as we die. This form we know as our body dissolves\, and we enter an in-between realm\, called the bardo. It’s from here that the stream flows on and a new form emerges. The process of the streaming\, and how form dissolves and reforms is driven by karma. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This talk will describe the process of dissolution\, the experiences one can expect along the way and the process of rebirth. You might ask\, how do we know this? \nFor experienced meditators\, the rise and fall of phenomena\, its appearing and disappearing during meditation goes through this same process. It is happening for all of us all the time\, but normally we can’t perceive it because it is very\, very subtle. \nMeditation allows us to get to know the process\, the streaming. Then when it emerges as a strong and dominating event at death\, we are prepared. \nDoug and Catherine share its defining characteristics and respond to questions. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Details\nThe public talk is free of charge. A donation for the teachers is welcome. The talk will be in English language with German translation. \nLocation:\nWe want to point out that there are no parking lots directly at the hospice. We recommend that you park in the surrounding official parking spaces. The walkway to the hospice will take you about 5 minutes. \nOrganizer:\nContact Andrea Netscher – phone: 01773200175\, e-mail: andreaomtare@me.com\n \n Dharma Europe

Without mindfulness and a robust sense of love\, all may fall into an exploitative dynamic\, one that’s not in our own best interest. How can we live abundantly and generously as spiritual beings in a capitalist system? We look at the sophistication of giving and receiving skills\, the future of sacred economics\, and how these impact our spiritual awakening.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, September 16\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Only the Shadow Knows\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Developments in 20th-century psychology introduced us to the concept of our personal and collective shadows. Integrating the shadow is central to our teaching\, and can feel arduous and distressing at times\, but brings with it infinite rewards. Liberating the shadow frees up immense amounts of energy previously spent repressing or otherwise avoiding it\, and helps us become much more pleasant\, effective and beneficial (loving) beings. So what does it take? What kinds of things can I do on my own and what do I need help with? How and from who?\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, September 23 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n AstroDharma\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n AstroDharma allows us to use relative truth of our astrological charts to better understand the karmically shaped or conditioned self. We then use dharma and transpersonal psychology to understand how to transcend the limitations of this self. In this way it’s a powerful tool for bridging relative and absolute truths\, and the right and left brain\, as experienced in daily life. In this class we share some of the aspects of AstroDharma that we’ve found have the greatest transformative potential. You’ll better understand how these dynamics are at play in your own life\, and how to use them for your unfoldment. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, September 30\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Money\, Sex and Power\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The nature of the ego is to seek security\, an unassailable identity\, and control. All of these are ego defenses rooted in the lower three chakras. The thing is\, this quest makes for a fragile and limited life. If we feel driven to always be in control\, for example\, opportunities for joyful spontaneity are drastically reduced. The spiritual life supports us to cultivate flexibility and freedom\, and to make choices based in loving kindness compassion and wisdom. Through this process our three lower chakras become more strengthened and healthier\, plus we develop the strength and courage to choose to live from the upper four chakras. Then we get to enjoy the wonders\, joys and other benefits of living well from the heart and intuition as spiritual beings. And we still get to enjoy the upsides of healthy money\, sex\, and power.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 4-6\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Flash Retreat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This Flash Retreat provides practitioners with a valuable opportunity to integrate and seal the learnings from the Crazy Wisdom online course\, in a format well suited for our contemporary lives. We encourage you to attend this weekend retreat at Clear Sky\, or together with your local sangha\, or if those not available to you\, in your home. SUMMARY:Buddhas in Action: Awakening in Daily Life
DESCRIPTION:Buddhas in Action: Awakening in Daily Life\n A Karma Yoga Retreat | August 9-24\, 2019\n When we’re in the middle of modern busy-ness\, the spiritual life can feel out of reach. This retreat gives you the building blocks to apply awareness\, compassion\, wisdom\, and strength to each moment. \n OverviewDetails\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Buddhas in Action: Awakening in Daily Life\nWe all need to earn a living and deal with day-to-day pressures. We want to relate meaningfully with those around us\, but we often feel unfulfilled. Work just leaves us feeling worn out and slightly empty. And sometimes the space between self and other feels like a tremendous gap. \nWhen we’re in the middle of modern samsaric busy-ness\, the spiritual life can feel out of reach. The wonderful news is that we can use contemporary spiritual practices at work and in relationship to feel fulfilled while doing so. These different parts of our life can support one another in beautiful ways\, leading to great feelings of meaningfulness\, balance\, and connection. \nThis retreat gives you the building blocks to apply awareness\, compassion\, wisdom\, and strength to each moment. The result is greater fulfillment amid daily life and meaningful connection with others and the world around you. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why Take Buddhas in Action\nThe Benefits of a Karma Yoga Retreat\nAugust 9-24\, 2019 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why Study Awakening through Action?\n \n \n \n \n \n We’ve spent the last 20 years adapting this tradition of awakening through action to our modern lives\, at home\, in offices\, in conversations\, at our desks\, in meetings\, in bed and in the field. This profoundly practical application can help you find greater joy\, fulfillment\, and calm amidst your busy daily life. \nBy learning the principles of karma yoga (awakening through action)\, you can apply awareness and wisdom to everything you do. Cultivating this practice allows you to transform your work\, home and city life into a connective field of monastic or yogic practice. Your home becomes your monastery\, while your co-workers become your fellow yogis and yoginis. \nOur experience shows that blending study\, meditation\, and what we call “awakening through action”\, profoundly integrates spiritual practice with day-to-day demands. \n\nKarma yoga has made me aware of how to streamline my energy to a sustainable\, smooth level of work. It has given me invaluable practice on focusing my attention on the task at hand. – Lisa Feder \n\nPlease note that this retreat and Clear Sky welcome people of all religious backgrounds and beliefs. This retreat is also open to all experience levels. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What’s Expected of Me if I Come to This Retreat?\n \n \n \n \n \n \nAn open mind and heart\, and a spirit of adventure are excellent things to bring!\nIt’s human to have some apprehensions about doing something new\, meeting new people\, or going to a new place. Particularly when all three happen together. We try to make this as supportive as possible.\nChanges – including positive ones – require movement\, and movement requires engaged energy. We ask you to engage with us around the teachings and activities that will support your learning and unfoldment around awakening in action.\nWhen exploring our growth edges\, it’s natural to feel uncertain and awkward. And it’s very fruitful to transform that emotional tension into creative energy by drawing on your own inner resources – such as inquiry\, going with the flow\, and self-reflection\, just a few of the many kinds of constructive engagement.\nTo maximize your learning\, we ask that you refrain from reading\, using the internet or listening to music during the course. We make an exception for journaling\, course assignments and dancing during exercises or group celebration – all great resources for integration and growth\nLastly\, our teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the Teachers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Catherine Pawasarat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Qapel Duncan\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Qapel (Achariya Doug Duncan) and Sensei (Catherine Pawasarat) were Planet Dharma’s founding teachers. SUMMARY:Riding the Dragon: Spiritual Awakening in Modern Life
DESCRIPTION:Riding the Dragon: Spiritual Awakening in Modern Life\n A Four Week Online Course | Starts June 3\, 2019\n How do we integrate our spiritual practice with the demands of modern life? How do we integrate our spiritual practice with the demands of modern life? To help ease the learning curve for others\, we share our wisdom from founding both a virtual and a working monastery. We address the common challenges we see many contemporary spiritual practitioners face. More to the point\, we share successful strategies for upcycling these challenges as fuel for the awakening fire. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Schedule\nStarts June 3\, 2019. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, JUNE 3\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Awakening Through Creativity\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The awakening mind rests in spaciousness or sunyata\, where all thoughts\, feelings\, actions\, and states of being from past\, present and future exist simultaneously. All of creation is birthed from this state of spaciousness. To “find” a solution\, to receive inspiration to craft something beautiful\, to introduce an invention that makes our lives better\, or to develop a better future for the planet\, we simply need to connect with sunyata to create the space and connection for these to emerge through us. Expand your view of what “creativity” is\, and develop your ability to connect with this awakening practice. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, JUNE 10\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Secrets From Ourselves:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n When we think of “secrets” we usually think of something we do or don’t share with others\, or what they do or don’t keep from us. Some of us like a feeling of transparency\, while some of us get a thrill from keeping little secrets. This usually involves conscious choice. The real secrets are the things we haven’t yet acknowledged to ourselves. The thing is\, if it’s secret for ourselves\, it’s secret from others too––we just don’t know it. We could say the self is like an iceberg\, with 90% below water! Compare this with a fully awakened being\, who has brought every dark corner of the psyche into the light of transcendence\, and has no secrets left. What is left\, then? Loving kindness\, compassion\, empathetic joy and equanimity. Plus bliss and wisdom. This online class shares how to get there from here.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, JUNE 17\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why the “Secret” Teachings Are Secret\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tibetan Buddhism holds that teachings are “self-secret” in that we can only understand them when we are ready to do so. In spiritual communities we can be confused what integral theory refers to as states and stages. “States” are internal kinds of consciousness that come and go\, while “stages” represent levels of growth and development that have been hard-won\, integrated into our daily lives\, and are thus permanent. At more developed stages\, we can understand and integrate deeper\, previously “secret” teachings. How can we use our wholesome states as a resource to further develop our stages? And how can we have the discernment to perceive different stages so we can speak\, act and live most skillfully? This topic is central to Vajrayana teachings and can be mistakenly perceived as controversial; this class will help us develop the understanding\, serenity and competence needed to incorporate it into our practice.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MON\, JUNE 24\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Western Tantra\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Sanskrit word “tantra” translates to “weaving” or “tapestry” in English. This begs the question: weave what? In this class we go off-road to expand the traditional perception of tantra to include archetypes from other traditions\, to show the unifying mind behind these creations. This connective energy is meant to lead one out of the struggles of clinging and attachment. In this class we share how non-clinging and greater freedom are the results. We’ll draw on creative visualization to access the intuitive wisdom of the right brain and increase right-left brain cohesion.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRI\, JUNE 28 – sun\, June 30\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Flash Retreat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This Flash Retreat provides practitioners with a valuable opportunity to integrate and seal the learnings from the Riding the Dragon online course\, in a format well suited for our contemporary lives. We encourage you to attend this weekend retreat at Clear Sky\, or together with you local sangha\, or if those not available to you\, in your home. SUMMARY:Golden & Dark Shadows: A Shadow Work Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Golden and Dark Shadows\n A Shadow Work Retreat in Nelson\, BC - May 17-20\, 2019\n Integrating our shadow may be the fastest way to unfold spiritually\, and reduce our suffering. By its very nature\, shadow work is not fun or pretty. It takes courage and fortitude. Join us for this incredible retreat. \n OverviewDetails\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Golden and Dark Shadows\nA Shadow Work Retreat\nJoin Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat at the Mountain Waters Retreat in Nelson BC for this powerful May long weekend shadow retreat. \nMost people are drawn to meditation and mindfulness for the bliss experiences. These bliss experiences spur on beginning meditators to stay with the practice. But as the practice of meditation deepens\, darker arisings can start to manifest. \nRather than being discouraged by these experiences\, it is helpful to see this as an opportunity to integrate these dark shadows into conscious awareness so that we may be free of their control. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why Integrate the Shadow?\nThe Benefits of this retreat in Nelson\, BC\nMay 17-20\, 2019 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why work with the shadow?\n \n \n \n \n \n If you’ve had these challenging arisings during your practice\, you may have been tempted to quit meditating\, or try a different method or a different teacher. This is understandable\, as facing these dark shadows can be scary and unpleasant. However\, if you can lean into these dark manifestations and hold the space openly around them\, there can be great release and transformation. \nRecognizing the contribution of the golden shadow – our ‘better angels’ – also helps ensure the practice stays joyful and doesn’t descend into nihilism. \nPlease note that this retreat  welcomes people of all religious backgrounds and beliefs. This retreat is also open to all experience levels. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the Teachers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Catherine Pawasarat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre\, BC\, Canada. SUMMARY:Office Hours: Online Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Office Hours \n Online Q&A with the Teachers \n It’s easy to feel bliss and clarity during retreat\, but how do you maintain it when you’re back home? Better yet\, how can you deepen and strengthen your spiritual practice amidst day-to-day demands? \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why Office Hours?\nThe Benefits of Regular Contact\nWhen you’re swept up in the busyness of career\, family and daily pressures\, Office Hours is an anchor to universal teachings and supportive community. Every second Sunday\, you have an opportunity to join our global network for an online Q&A session with Dharma Teachers Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat. \nComing together in question and reflection is a precious opportunity for deepened compassion and wisdom. You may discover that others share the same question as you\, or better yet\, learn the answers to questions you even never thought to ask. This ‘triple gem’ of Buddha\, Dharma and Sangha is a tangible refuge to strengthen your awakening journey. \nNot sure what to expect? You are welcome to attend as an observer and are not required to ask a question. Although participants are encouraged to bring questions\, it is not mandatory.  \nVideo recordings are available for those who cannot attend live.  \nOffice Hours is open to all experience levels. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the Teachers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Catherine Pawasarat\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre\, BC\, Canada. \nAchariya Doug Duncan received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 1978\, and is a lineage holder in that teaching.
