Moving Through Habits, Toronto Workshops
Centre for Social Innovation - Spadina 215 Spadina Ave , Toronto, on, CanadaWhat is at the core of the ultimate unsatisfactory nature of our daily modern lives? Three of the things many of us struggle with most are our habits, our anxieties and our addictions. Much of our lives’ activities are spent attempting to either distract or overcome these forces. Even spiritual practice can and is often used this way: to smooth over or suppress these elements that have such a hold on us. What if instead of attempting to defeat or conquer these parts of ourselves, we turned and moved into them? What would a deeper, compassionate examination of our habits uncover? Based on The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, these interactive workshops will give you the tools you need to gain traction over your habit patterns. Dates & Time: Saturday, March 29th & Sunday, March 30th from 2pm to 4pm Costs*: $30 per session (at the door), or $20 (in advance) * The above fees are charged to cover travel and accommodation costs for the teachers. As is tradition, the teachings are offered for free by the teachers in the spirit of generosity. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to practice generosity by bringing an offering for the teachers.

Guatemala: Annual Meditation Retreat
Villa Sumaya Retreat Center Lake Atitlan, Guatemala“Kasinas,” “mandalas” and “psychedelia” are all different words referring to tools for the development of the mind. Kasinas comprise part of the ten recollections taught by the Buddha; they are known to develop calm and concentration while also leading to bliss. Using meditative objects — such as the four elements, colors and breathing — together we unlock the power of the here and now, opening the mind to its natural state: clear, radiant, spacious wonder. A traditional Tibetan empowerment (or “Wong Kur”) for White Tara will be offered during this silent retreat. White Tara represents our connection with the transcendental, and is also known for her compassion, serenity, and ability to confer healing and longevity. This silent meditation retreat is beneficial for all levels of practitioner, from the beginning meditation student to advanced practitioners. It includes two daily teachings with Sensei plus an opportunity for personal interviews as well as three daily group sits and time for personal practice. There will be a one hour yoga class each day with our beloved and skillful teacher, Rae Ishe. Villa Sumaya has generously priced this retreat to make it accessible to all practitioners. Vajrasattva Wongkur, Calgary
Human Potential 360, Calgary 1231 9 Ave SE, Inglewood, Calgary, AB, CanadaThursday Night – Vajra Sattva Wong Kur. 7:30pm - 8:30pm (please arrive at 7pm). This wongkur is a special initiation bestowed on students to accelerate their spiritual progress. The Vajrasattva practice is said to be particularly powerful for purifying the impure energy of the mind and the negative actions of body and speech that arise from it. In all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, the Vajrasattva practice is one of the preliminary practices. Sometimes our Dharma practice doesn’t seem to bring good results. This is because our negative karma is creating obstacles. Doing this Vajrasattva practice can purify these negative mental imprints, thus removing the obstacles and suffering that result from our negative habits. What is a Wong Kur? More info here: https://www.clearskycenter.org/images/stories/misc-pdfs/wongkur.pdf Dana Achariya Doug Duncan lives solely by the donation bowl. Participants are encouraged to practice Dana (generosity) to support the teaching. It is also customary to bring an offering of Dana to present to the Lama during the wongkur.
